Helping UWinnipeg thrive

In 1969, Dr. John Buhler purchased Morden’s Standard Gas Engine Works which, through his vision and entrepreneurial leadership, became the farm equipment empire, Buhler Industries. Inspired by a shared passion for giving back, he and his wife Dr. Bonnie Buhler have transformed their success into a means of fostering community strength and prosperity.

Together they have donated millions of dollars and considerable time and energy towards a variety of initiatives, including the Buhler Gallery at St. Boniface Hospital, The Buhler Cancer Centre at Victoria Hospital, the Buhler Reflective Gardens at St. Amant Centre, the Buhler Welcome Centre at the Manitoba Children’s Museum, and the Buhler Commons and John and Bonnie Buhler Library at Red River College.

In 2010, the Buhlers donated $4 million towards the Buhler Centre, home to the Faculty of Business and Economics and UWinnipeg’s Professional Applied and Continuing Education programs, and to establish the Buhler Knowledge Access Fund, which provides scholarships and bursaries for students of Business and Economics.

The Buhlers were awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Laws by The University of Winnipeg in 2014.
