Dr. Paul D. K. Fraser

Elevating the legal system and government transparency in Canada

Dr. Paul D. K. Fraser is an alumnus of The University of Winnipeg (BA 61) and accomplished Canadian lawyer.

After graduating from UWinnipeg, Fraser completed a Bachelor of Laws at the University of British Columbia in 1986. He has extensive experience in both civil and criminal matters and is a senior partner with the Vancouver law firm, Fraser Milner Casgrain.

Other career highlights include serving as president of the BC branch of the Canadian Bar Association, acting as Canada’s representative to the Commonwealth Lawyers’ Association, and working as president of the International Commission of Jurists (Canadian Section).

In 2007, Fraser was unanimously appointed as Conflict Commissioner for the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia — a position which seeks to advise Members of the Legislative Assembly on potential conflicts of interest and carry out investigations into complaints of conflicts of interest.

Fraser, who has also served on the UWinnipeg Foundation Board of Directors, returned to his alma mater to receive an Honorary Doctorate of Laws in 1986. The honour was in recognition of his professional dedication to the betterment of the country and his commitment to promoting understanding and good relations between Canada and other nations.
