Cultural Studies Research Group

Home

The Cultural Studies Research Group (CSRG) is a diverse team of interdisciplinary scholars from across the Social Sciences and Humanities at the University of Winnipeg (UW), with an impressive track record of cultural studies and social justice related research. The CSRG was founded 2011 with support from the Faculty of Arts in order to promote and develop cultural studies research at the UW, and to serve as a context for student research training.

Cultural studies itself is a field of inquiry concerned with how formations of knowledge, power, affect and materiality come to circulate in and as “culture.” The CSRG aims specifically to seek out modes of productive intervention that make a difference in everyday lives and in the institutional worlds of culture, education, society and politics.

The CSRG is supported by the University of Winnipeg’s Associate Vice-President Research and Innovation, the Chancellor, the President’s Office, and the Provost and Vice-President Academic and International. The CSRG also supports and is supported by the UW’s MA Program in Cultural Studies.

With funding from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) the CSRG has also established a partnership with the Centre for Ethnographic Research and Exhibition in the Aftermath of Violence (CEREV) at Concordia University in Montréal.
