Sarah Bezan
Alumni, Donor, UWinnipeg Alumni Association President
Sarah Bezan's relationship with The University of Winnipeg is multifaceted: she is an alumna (BAH 09, PACE 11), former employee of the UWinnipeg Foundation, contract faculty member of the Department of English, founder of the English Department Mentorship Scholarship, and currently president of the University's Alumni Association.
As president, Bezan has worked with the Alumni Association council in developing a mentorship program, which has included events featuring University of Pennsylvania history professor, Dr. Warren Breckman and Winnipeg hotelier, Ben Sparrow.
Bezan's goal is to strengthen communication with UWinnipeg alumni and to provide networking opportunities that enable alumni and recent graduates to build a plan for their career development goals.
As a former UWinnipeg student, and current PhD Candidate in English at The University of Alberta, Bezan continues to benefit from the incredible mentorship and friendship of UWinnipeg professors.
With their support, her academic journey has led her to secure national funding from SSHRC and the Killam Trust, which has further made it possible for Bezan to present at 18 national and international conferences; publish six articles and book chapters in top-tier journals; organize two local symposia with preeminent scholars and community leaders; participate in two renowned Critical Theory Schools at Utrecht University, Netherlands, and Cornell University, New York; and complete a three-month research residency at Cambridge University.
As she prepares for her PhD defense this year, Bezan hopes that her research on contemporary creative engagements with Charles Darwin's evolutionary theory will make an original contribution to literary studies.
