Andi Sharma
Alumna, Policy Analyst, Food Security Advocate
Andi Sharma’s impact is felt in food security sectors at the provincial, national and international levels. Since earning her Masters of Public Administration from The University of Winnipeg’s joint program, she has been able to use her research skills to publish peer-reviewed research on both food security and social enterprise internationally.
Sharma has been able to share her research with a wide variety of sectors as a public speaker — most recently as a TEDx Talk presenter. She has also had the opportunity to share her Manitoba research findings with the global food security network during a presentation to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization.
She has used the networks she built at UWinnipeg to develop her volunteerism and to create deep, meaningful connections to the local food security scene. Her passion for food security is so intense that she is currently earning her pilot’s license with the hope of one-day flying food to the north herself.
Sharma sits on three boards and volunteers for a myriad of food security and poverty reduction initiatives. Her dedication to her field has been recognized, most recently, with her appointment as a founding member to the City of Winnipeg’s inaugural City Food Council.
Other recognition for volunteerism and leadership in her field include: CBC’s 2015 Future 40 Under 40; Manitoba’s 2015 Top 30 Under 30; and a 2016 Future Leader of Manitoba finalist.
In her spare time, she writes for HuffPost and uses that platform to highlight change-makers in Manitoba.
