Biography:
Brian Myhre (Ph.D., University of Manitoba) is a cultural anthropologist whose main interests includes community and economic development of urban Aboriginal people, social network analysis and the social impacts of computer-mediated communications technologies (e.g., Internet and SMS), social-psychology and small group behaviour, religion and spirituality, and applied anthropology. His graduate field research focused on how leaders of several Winnipeg-based Aboriginal organizations used Internet, SMS text messaging, and social media platforms (e.g., Facebook) to achieve important social-cultural and economic development goals, and to build capacity of Aboriginal people through culturally appropriate education, skills training, and mentoring services.
Myhre is currently teaching within the Department of Anthropology at the University of Winnipeg, and provides course instruction at the International College of Manitoba. He has also taught introductory anthropology courses within the First Year Now program administered in partnership between the Seven Oaks School Division and the University of Winnipeg.
