Bring your lunch and join us to unlock the mysteries of Chinese characters! Professor Yongshan He will talk about some fundamentals of the Chinese writing system, from its basic elements to interesting linguistic phenomena such as homophones. Everyone is welcome to join and explore the world of Chinese characters, and no previous knowledge of the language is needed.
Yongshan He is an assistant professor in the Department of Religion and Culture at The University of Winnipeg, teaching courses in Chinese language and East Asian Culture. She works on Buddhist material culture in early medieval China, and has broader research interest in East Asian cultural history.
This event is presented in conjunction with Gallery 1C03's exhibition Within and Beyond Tradition: Works by East Asian Artists in The University of Winnipeg Collection.
