UWinnipeg students present at study of comics conference in Toronto
Tue. May. 5, 2015
Two UWinnipeg students are delivering papers at the upcoming conference of the Canadian Society for the Study of Comics in Toronto, to be held May 7-8, 2015.
Emily Wilson (who is graduating with an Honours BA in English and going on to MA studies in the Department of English at York University in Toronto) is presenting a paper titled “Hyperability: The Superhero Influence and Disability in Box Brown’s Andre the Giant: Life and Legend.” Vanessa Nunes (who is completing her MA in Cultural Studies) is presenting a paper titled, “The Photographer as Witness in Picture a Favela.”
“This is a peer-reviewed conference and it is quite an accomplishment for students at the early stages of their careers to be accepted,” said Candida Rifkind, Associate Professor in the Department of English in UWinnipeg’s Faculty of Arts.
