Arts profs awarded major grants for Indigenous health research

Two Faculty of Arts professors have been awarded major grants from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) to support their work in Indigenous health research. Dr. Mary Jane McCallum of the Department of History will receive $254,286 over three years for her project, Indigenous Histories of Tubercolosis (TB) in Manitoba 1930-1970. Ms Lorena Fontaine of the Department of Indigenous Studies will receive a $100,000 as a one year grant specifically from CIHR's Institute for Aboriginal Health 'Aboriginal Ways of Knowing and Two-eyed Seeing' Priority Area in support of her project Mite Achimowin (Heart Talk) First Nations Women in Winnipeg and Opaskwayak Cree Nations Expressions of Heart Health.
