New faculty member in WFP weekend feature
Mon. Aug. 31, 2015
For new Women's and Gender Studies prof, Dr. Sharanpal Ruprai, it might be a new position, but coming to Winnipeg, and the University of Winnipeg in particular, is really a homecoming. Ruprai graduated from UWinnipeg with a Bachelor of Education and a Bachelor of Arts (English Honours) and returns an accomplished academic and writer. (Seva, a poetry collection by Ruprai, is on the shortlist for the 2015 Alberta Literary Awards.) For more on Ruprai's research and writing, go to the UWinnipeg Communications feature "A new voice in Women's and Gender Studies."
Ruprai appears in Saturday's Winnipeg Free Press (WPF) in the Books section, "Night Table Aug. 29: Sharanpal Ruprai," (August 29, 2015), where she speaks of reading Love Enough by acclaimed writer and former Toronto Poet Laureate Dionne Brand. For more on Dionne Brand and Love Enough, go to the Globe and Mail feature "Watching Toronto in the rear-view mirror in Love Enough" (October 5, 2014).
That she is already connecting with Winnipeggers through the pages of the WPF (Ruprai hasn't been back to Winnipeg for a full month yet) and that she is reading Dionne Brand (writer/educator/activist) tell us much about Ruprai. And no doubt we can look forward to hearing much more from her.
