Fri. Sep. 23, 2022
Congratulations to our new faculty members in the Faculty of Arts! We look forward to introducing each of them to you in the coming weeks.
New for this year, we’re inviting each of our new faculty members to answer one of three questions:
- What course are you most looking forward to teaching at UWinnipeg – and why?
- What was one thing you learned as an undergraduate that was/has been really important to you – and why?
- If you’ve come from elsewhere, what are/were you most interested in checking out in Winnipeg – or Manitoba?
Here we feature Prof. Lindsay Wong, Assistant Professor in the English Department.
Welcome Prof. Wong and thank you for sharing about yourself with us!

I am most looking forward to teaching ENG 3115 (Writing the Young Adult Novel). I’ve taught YA writing previously at different institutions, and it’s always my favorite creative writing workshop. We start by discussing popular and contemporary YA books, learn to apply the Save the Cat! Writes A Novel to our work, and students workshop the first two chapters of a novel. Most students end up writing fantasy, horror or dystopian. It’s a lot of fun. This year, I have authors Uzma Jalaluddin ("Ayesha at Last") and Tanya Boteju ("Kings, Queens, and In-Betweens") joining us for a special guest visit.
I am very excited to be joining the English department at the University of Winnipeg, and I hope to see students in my creative writing workshops!
We’re pleased to welcome Prof. Wong as faculty in the English department's creative writing program and we look forward to her next book Tell Me Pleasant Things about Immortality which is forthcoming February 21, 2023 (Penguin Random House Canada).
