Ken McCluskey

Dr. Ken McCluskey’s exceptional academic achievements have left an ineffaceable mark on The University of Winnipeg’s Faculty of Education.
His impressive scholarship and creative intelligence have led to innovative programs that have improved learning for underserved and marginalized youth.
Known for his selfless and generous spirit, Dr. McCluskey has dedicated his career, through scholarship, to creating ways to uncover hidden abilities in individuals and reducing the psychological, situational, and institutional barriers that prevent them from achieving their full potential.
He has made a difference in many lives through his work to develop school and community programs, and his research in the areas of giftedness, ADHD, mentoring, and at-risk children and youth has significantly influenced researchers and practitioners.
Dr. McCluskey’s work distills complex research into theories and practices that are easy to comprehend. With a foundation in sound academic literature, he approaches challenging topics with a delightful blend of humour and empathy.
He was part of the team that created the successful Community-based Aboriginal Teacher Education Program, which nurtures and supports Indigenous educational assistants as they become teachers. Additionally, he helped establish the Immigrant Teacher Education Program to help internationally trained teachers become teachers in Manitoba.
A prodigious writer, Dr. McCluskey has more than 100 published journal articles and chapters, and more than 20 books to his credit, including Lost Prizes: Talent Development and Problem Solving with At-Risk Students.
Dr. McCluskey served three terms as Dean of Education. He has also generated millions of dollars in grants and contracts, delivered hundreds of lectures worldwide, and received numerous awards at UWinnipeg and abroad.
