Vesna Milosevic-Zdjelar
Vesna Milosevic-Zdjelar joined The University of Winnipeg’s Physics Department in 2000 and since that time, she has made important contributions in the area of creating community awareness.
In particular, her passion for science education has led to several high-profile science outreach programs. Let’s Talk Science is a program where University faculty and students visit area schools or host field trips to the University to promote science awareness and literacy, in a hands-on manner.
Milosevic-Zdjelar is one of the main coordinators for UWinnipeg’s participation in the NSERC Promoscience Program – a program that features a series of weekly science activities at the Manitoba Children’s Museum.
Milosevic-Zdjelar has also helped with the CSI program of summer camps for inner-city schools that is run through the Social Planning Council of Winnipeg. The program helps at-risk elementary students stay involved in learning over the summer months.
She assists with the organization of the Homework Club at the Wii Chiiwaakanak Learning Centre, presents at conferences and symposia for science teachers, judges science fairs, serves as a mentor to numerous teachers and students, and speaks to several outside organizations – all while maintaining a heavy teaching load at the University.
