Convocation Week June 2 to 5, 2009

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - TUESDAY, MAY 26, 2009
WINNIPEG, MB - Journalists are invited to attend the Special Convocation ceremony at The University of Winnipeg on Tuesday, June 2, 2009 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM, which will include an address by the former President of Peru and presentation of diplomas to the first graduating class of students from the Indigenous Police Preparation Program. Journalists are also invited to attend the regular Spring Convocation ceremonies on June 4 and June 5, 2009. Pool sound will be provided.
TUESDAY, JUNE 2 - SPECIAL CONVOCATION from 2:00 to 4:00 PM
Convocation Hall - 2nd Floor Wesley Hall, 515 Portage Avenue
Conferring of an Honorary Degree on His Excellency Alejandro Toledo, 46th President of Peru. Alejandro Toledo will address graduates (in English).
Degrees will be conferred on graduates from the Faculty of Arts Aboriginal Governance Major.
Diplomas and Certificates will be conferred on graduates from the Division of Continuing Education's Aboriginal Programs (including the Indigenous Police Preparation Program).
THURSDAY, JUNE 4 - SPRING CONVOCATION
Spring Convocation takes place at The University of Winnipeg's Duckworth Centre (Spence Street at Ellice Avenue)
9:30 AM - Science and Business and Economics - An Honorary Doctor of Laws will be conferred upon Leonard Asper. Andre Oberl� will be admitted to Fellowship in United College. Degrees will be conferred in Science and Business and Economics.
2:30 PM - Theology and Education - An Honorary Doctor of Laws will be conferred upon Donald Treffinger. Mac Watts, Harold King and Annabelle Mays will be admitted to Fellowship in United College. Degrees will be conferred in Theology and Education.
FRIDAY, JUNE 5 - SPRING CONVOCATION
9:30 AM - Arts - An Honorary Doctor of Laws will be conferred upon H. Sanford Riley. Neil Besner will receive the Marsha Hanen Award for Excellence in Creating Community Awareness. Degrees will be conferred in Arts.
