Zbigniew Izydorczyk Presenting Research at Four Conferences
Mon. May. 1, 2017
Professor Zbigniew Izydorczyk is presenting research at four conferences this spring:
“The Idea of the Gospel of Nicodemus,” Medieval Academy of America Conference, University of Toronto, April 8-10, 2017
“On Editing an Authorless Text: Evangellium Nicodemi and Its Culturally Salient Versions,” Repenser l’œuvre antique: textes à plusiers mains et transmission plurielle, Labex RESMED and Paris-Sorbonne, June 9-10, 2017
“The Latin Versions of the Evangelium Nicodemi” (joint presentation with Anne-Catherine Baudoin, École normale supérieure, Paris), Association pour l'Étude de la Littérature Apocryphe Chrétienne, Réunion annuelle 2017
“Evangelium Nicodemi: A Comprehensive Database of Manuscripts” (joint presentation with Ron McFadyen, University of Winnipeg), Association pour l'Étude de la Littérature Apocryphe Chrétienne, Réunion annuelle 2017
All four papers address issues arising from his manuscript research leading towards a new edition of a medieval bestseller, the apocryphal Gospel of Nicodemus (Evangelium NIcodemi). His presentations explore the origin of modern, print-based notions about the apocryphon; suggest a way capturing its dynamic textuality in print; and identify its culturally most salient versions preserved in Latin and vernacular manuscripts. A companion project to his edition is an online database and a collaborative research website focusing initially on the manuscripts of the Evangelium Nicodemi but with plans to expand them to other apocrypha as well.
