Innovative U of Winnipeg English Class Receives Notice in the Press
Mon. Jan. 30, 2023
Professor Sandy Pool’s Writing the City class, which brings together Honours and Graduate students, have received notice in the local press for its innovative pedagogy and for its students’ engagement with pressing social and political issues.
The UWinnipeg News detailed the classes’ work in a January 12, 2023 story titled “Taking learning to the streets.”
Just a few days later, John Longhurst wrote about the class’s effort to make a positive intervention into the public sphere by getting out into the city and examining the spaces and places that constitute it and the needs and desires of those who use those locales. The article, “School Project Puts Warmth Into Bus Wait,” highlighted several student projects from the class and recognized Professor Pool’s push to get students to think about both the Winnipeg that is and the Winnipeg of the future.
