Justis Henault – Bioscience, Technology and Public Policy
I appreciate receiving the EMILI Master of Science Award. This recognition provides encouragement to research and confers financial support. My thesis research focusses on the feeding behaviour of caterpillars of the globally endangered Poweshiek skipperling butterfly. I collaborate with local and international conservation experts in academia, non-for-profits and multiple levels of government as an active member in the Poweshiek skipperling International Working Group to prevent the extirpation of this butterfly. The monetary support will help with educational and personal expenses during the completion of my MSc degree. Upon completion of this degree I look forward to the pursuit of a PhD. The recognition of the EMILI MSc award will hopefully inspire others that identify as Indigenous students, to strive for scientific research and learning.
