Rajesh Jaiswal – Applied Computer Science and Society Alumni
Receiving the Linda Brown and Vana Kirby Graduate Scholarship helped me to cover some of my expenses. It helped to reduce some of my financial burdens which in turn helped me to focus on my research without worrying much about my finances. Thanks to graduate studies, and Linda Brown and Vana Kirby for awarding this scholarship. It made my master's journey at UofW easier. Congratulations to the current recipients of this award!
2020-21 Award Recipient
Cassie Dong – JMP Peace and Conflict Studies
My name is Ha (Cassie) Dong (pronouns: she, her, hers). I am a graduate student in the Joint M.A. Program in Peace and Conflict Studies. I am very grateful to receive the Lana Brown and Vana Kirby Graduate Scholarship. I would not be able to receive this scholarship without the support of my family, friends, my colleagues and faculty members at the Arthur V. Mauro Institute for Peace & Justice and Menno Simons College, particularly my advisor Dr. Adam Muller. This scholarship has significantly lightened my financial burden, especially during COVID-19, so I can focus on my learning, research, and community involvement. With a firm belief in education for social change, I am interested in using a critical, decolonial approach to research about local peacebuilding and decolonization in education in Southeast Asia. My hope, and long-term goal, is to be able to transform the national education system in Vietnam, my home country, and highlight local youths’ resilience and resistance against neocolonialism and structural violence.
