CHARACTER OF THIS CLASSIFICATION LEVEL

In positions at this level, incumbents are involved in the daily operation and maintenance of recreational and sports equipment and facilities.  Duties are performed under general supervision in accordance with established policies and procedures.  The supervision of other employees is not a requirement at this level, however, incumbents may be required to assist in the introductory training of other employees at the same or lower levels.  Incumbents may be required to work day, evening and/or weekend shifts.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES WHICH ARE INTENDED TO ILLUSTRATE THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THIS CLASSIFICATION LEVEL AND SHOULD NOT BE INTERPRETED AS A DESCRIPTION OF ANY ONE INDIVIDUAL POSITION WITHIN THIS CLASSIFICATION LEVEL
  1. Issues lockers, passes, keys, towels to authorized users and monitors their return
  2. Issues sports equipment to authorized users, monitors return of equipment and may perform routine repairs when necessary
  3. Acquaints patrons with facility procedures
  4. Makes routine inspections of the facility and reports malfunctioning of equipment, security infractions, or unauthorized practices
  5. Maintains records on use of equipment and facilities
  6. Opens facility in the morning, secures facility in the evening and maintains cleanliness and security of areas in accordance with procedures
  7. Accepts cash for sales of equipment and clothing, use of facilities and rental of equipment
  8. Operates computerized cash register, maintains cash float, balances cash and completes daily summaries as requested
  9. Launders towels and uniforms and restocks as necessary
  10. Sets up equipment - ie:  score clocks, sound system, etc.
  11. Performs other related duties as required or assigned
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

The minimum qualifications necessary for acceptable (satisfactory)  performance are:

Level of Formal Education

  • High school completion or equivalent 
Experience
  • One year of related experience including handling cash, issuing receipts, and monitoring security and maintenance of a facility
  • Familiarity with recreational sports facilities and equipment
  • or
  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience
Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to maintain accurate and detailed records
  • Ability to handle cash
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, students, and the public
  • Ability to work day, evening and/or weekend shifts
