CHARACTER OF THIS CLASSIFICATION LEVEL
In positions at this level, incumbents work under instructions and
specific guidelines. This is the level for those who possess sufficient
skills and training for the scope of their tasks but who do not normally
supervise or lead others. This level of position is primarily used for
required basic hardware, software and network support.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES WHICH
ARE INTENDED TO ILLUSTRATE THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THIS CLASSIFICATION LEVEL
AND SHOULD NOT BE INTERPRETED AS A DESCRIPTION OF ANY ONE INDIVIDUAL POSITION
WITHIN THIS CLASSIFICATION LEVEL
- Performs basic PC
software and hardware setup, installation, configuration, testing,
upgrading and/or repairing to PC desktop systems and peripherals, operating
systems, PC hardware and application software
- Performs hardware
upgrades and installs, configures and maintains hardware device drivers
- Installs configures
and troubleshoots desktop Novell Network and email software
- Participates in the
testing of institutional standards, processes and procedures
- Takes responsibility
for small defined projects
- Maintains inventory,
technical documentation, forms, files and departmental software library
- Reads and interacts with
colleagues to maintain current level of technical knowledge
- Performs other related
duties as required or assigned

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
The minimum qualifications necessary for acceptable (satisfactory)
performance are:
Level of Formal Education
- 2 year Diploma in a
related discipline (e.g. Computer/Electronic Technology) from a
recognized institution
Experience
- 1 year of related
experience in relevant function(s) is desirable, including a basic
knowledge and understanding of microcomputer systems, local area
networks and their operating systems and application software
- or
- An acceptable
equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
Skills and Abilities
- Basic oral and written
communication skills with the ability to explain technical procedures
and ideas to University faculty, staff and students
- Ability to meet user
needs by resolving problems and evaluating effectiveness of solutions
- Ability to plan,
organize, coordinate schedules and deadlines for our own work processes while
maintaining effective working relationships with others in a team
environment
Physical Requirements
- May be required to
lift and move apparatus in excess of 15 Kg.
- Capable of performing
the duties as assigned
