CHARACTER OF THIS CLASSIFICATION LEVEL
In positions at this level, incumbents work under standard practices and guidelines.
This level is the level for those who have proficient skills and training for
the scope of their tasks and may coordinate a project but who do not normally
supervise or lead a team.
General supervision is provided, but individuals possess the background
knowledge and experience to make informed and responsible decisions which are
technically sound. Incumbents provide guidance and instruction to other staff
at the same and lower levels and may be required to assume their
responsibilities during normal absences.

AND SHOULD NOT BE INTERPRETED AS A DESCRIPTION OF ANY ONE INDIVIDUAL POSITION
WITHIN THIS CLASSIFICATION LEVEL
- Specifies, constructs
or modifies program modules or enhancements to existing systems,
ensuring design and security guidelines are being followed and
requirements are being met including: investigating, resolving problems
and documentation
- Converts logical
designs to physical designs
- Develops, installs,
configures, upgrades, maintains and troubleshoots networks, systems,
hardware, software and/or computer labs
- Provides basic end
user support, determining and correcting user problems, involving:
network connectivity, network client applications and rudimentary
training
- Attends seminars,
conferences and affiliation with professional groups
- Using web development
software applications and standards, develops, updates and maintains a
departmental website or programs including: developing and formatting
web pages, converting content to HTML, modifying programs and resources,
and providing consultation and basic technical support
- Assists in developing,
debugging, testing and account maintenance of departmental data bases
and systems
- May include regular
library reference duties
- Acts as technical
advisor in the development and scheduling of new courses and programs
including: attending advisory group meetings; researching, analyzing and
costing new products; and advising students on course content and
requirements
- Provides office
technical support including: inventories, purchases, network access,
maintaining/monitoring hardware, backups, responding to inquiries
- Performs other related
duties as required or assigned

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
The minimum qualifications necessary for acceptable (satisfactory)
performance are:
Level of Formal Education and Experience
- Undergraduate degree
in a related discipline from a recognized institution with 1 year
related experience, or
- Accredited
Institutional diploma from a recognized institution plus 2 years of
directly related experience, including: a working knowledge and
understanding of microcomputer hardware and software systems,
techniques, local area networks and/or their operating systems
- or
- An acceptable
equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
Skills and Abilities
- Good oral and written
communication skills with the ability to explain technical procedures
and ideas to University faculty, staff, students and prepare basic
technical reports
- Ability to analyze and
assess user needs, evaluate effectiveness of solutions and resolve
problems
- Ability to exercise
sound independent judgement, initiative and resourcefulness
- Ability to plan, organize,
establish schedules and deadlines for work processes while maintaining
effective working relationships with co-workers and other University
staff in a team environment
Physical Requirements
- May be required to
lift and move apparatus in excess of 15 kg.
- Capable of performing
the duties as assigned
