Position Overview

The Student Content Creator is a temporary (3 months) part-time (14 hrs/week) position designed for current students and recent alumni at the University of Winnipeg. This role involves collecting and creating engaging photo and video content to be shared on the University’s social media platforms, such as Instagram and TikTok. The incumbent will work under the supervision of Marketing and Communications staff, contributing to the development of creative content that highlights campus life, events, and student experiences. This role is an excellent opportunity for students looking to gain hands-on experience in digital marketing and social media management.

This position reports to the Marketing and Communications department. Daily assignments and supervision are provided by more senior support staff.

Hours can be adjusted to work around the Student Content Creator’s class schedule. The role may require availability to capture content during campus events or peak times.

Key Responsibilities

Content creation and collection:

  • Capture high-quality photos and videos from throughout the UWinnipeg campus as assigned by Marketing and Communications staff
  • Prepare content for publication on social media platforms with guidance from Marketing and Communications staff.
  • Interact with students and other student staff to conceptualize and collect engaging content.

Collaboration and creative input:

  • Participate in creative meetings with Recruitment and Marketing and Communications staff, suggesting content ideas and strategies to engage prospective students.
  • Offer input on additional communications to prospective students, such as newsletters and advertising, as time permits.

Content review and optimization:

  • Provide suggestions for enhancing social media content based on current trends and best practices.
  • Ensure content is reviewed by Marketing and Communications staff to ensure it aligns with the University's brand and messaging guidelines.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Must be a student or recent alumni at The University of Winnipeg
  • Preferred fields of study: marketing, communications, or a related discipline

Experience:

  • Experience creating content for social media platforms, particularly Instagram and TikTok
  • Preferred: Experience creating social media content in a professional setting

Skills and abilities:

  • Extensive experience using social media, and strong understanding of social media trends
  • Proficiency in creating short-form video content and photography
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to generate creative ideas that resonate with prospective students

Physical requirements:

  • Ability to travel around the main UWinnipeg campus for content collection
