Biography:
Narumi Taniguchi is an associate professor and director of the Master of Marriage and Family Therapy program. She is a Registered Marriage and Family Therapist and Supervisor Mentor with the Canadian Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and an AAMFT Clinical Fellow and Approved Supervisor. Her clinical experience encompasses three countries: Japan, U.S., and Canada. Her clinical practice builds on her endeavour to integrate different and often polarized worldviews. She has been teaching diversity and social justice in post-secondary graduate and undergraduate programs in Canada and the U.S. for nearly 15 years. Her research focuses on the ways in which systemic and structural racism and sexism manifest in cross-cultural relationships. Most recently, Dr. Taniguchi was co-investigator of a research project on refugee youth and mental health well-being. She holds a PhD from Texas Tech University (Lubbock, TX) and MA from Syracuse University (Syracuse, NY) both in Marriage and Family Therapy as well as a BA in Education from Kobe University (Japan). Prior to her current position at the University of Winnipeg, she taught at Alliant International University (San Diego, CA) and Concordia University (Montréal, QC).
