Jackie Dormer

Jackie Dormer Taanshi, hello, my name is Jackie Dormer.  I was born and raised in Bird’s Hill, and I currently reside in Winnipeg with my two cats, Cricket and Boo. I have an advanced bachelor’s degree in Linguistics and a general bachelor’s degree in Indigenous Studies from the University of Manitoba. Currently, I work as a research assistant. In my spare time I enjoy being active, running, playing sports, and reading, as well as resting.

I am passionate about language revitalization and reclamation. My passion for language revitalization began when I took a Michif language course at the University of Manitoba taught by Heather Souter and I started learning how Indigenous language knowledge is connected to personal, community, and global vitality. This has motivated me to continue developing skills to support language revitalization in my community. My research interests include the ways in which language revitalization and reclamation are connected to well-being. I look forward to applying the knowledge and experience MDP offers to support grassroots Indigenous organizations in their language revitalization programming and initiatives.
