Janna Barkman's field placement project focused on intergenerational knowledge transmission in Fisher River Cree Nation (Manitoba) to explore health, culture and food among community members. The project's goal was to encourage active participation and interest of younger generations in reconnecting to their cultural identity while addressing the lack of awareness of healthy eating, traditional foods, and food safety. In collaboration with the Fisher River Health Center Diabetes Clinic and University of Winnipeg, Janna assisted in the design and contents of "The Forgotten Traditional Foods of Fisher River: Community Food Security Manual." The book includes community recipes, photography from the youth outdoor education class, as well as narratives of community members on their experiences with traditional foods and food sovereignty.
