Isa Wali Empowerment Initiative (IWEI), Nigeria

Badriyya Yusuf's focus of her practicum with Isa Wali Empowerment Initiative (IWEI) was a Photovoice research project. Fifteen schoolgirls were selected as participants out of the Safe Space Program. The objective of the project is to give the girls a voice to advocate for their rights.

The project activities included photography, public speaking and debating sessions and advocacy training. Girls were provided with cameras to take pictures of the challenges and opportunities that they came across in the pursuit of education. Most of them identified early marriage as the main obstacle to their education. The main deliverable of the project therefore, is a picture book show casing the pictures taken by the girls to be used in girl-child education advocacy campaigns.
