Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs
Anna Huard spent her summer embedded at the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs (AMC). She writes: "In working with the incredible staff at the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs, I was able to see the fundamentals of this strong organization. From the outside, looking in, it seems like a standard office environment; however, ceremonies and smudging occurred frequently as a part of a healthy work space."
Anna worked with the Families First Foundation Inc., an initiative started by AMC which helps support families of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG). She helped organize Canada’s largest Blanket Dance ceremony to bring in funding for the Families First Foundation. The second initiative that she worked with was the Manitoba Indigenous Adoptees Coalition (MIAC) who provide a support forum for those who have been impacted by the Sixties Scoop.
