Watershed Support Services and Activities Network (WASSAN)
Three students worked in the state of Andhra Pradesh in south-east India with local partners organizations of WASSAN.
Manna Sainju and Dev Kashyap worked alongside a local NGO, Appropriate Reconstruction Training and Information Center (ARTIC) in the Srikakulam District. Kaitlyn Duthie-Kannikkatt was based in the Araku Valley with Sanjeevini.
Manna focused her research on food security among Savara tribal group specifically looking at dietary changes over the last 30 years and aimed to understand communities’ perspectives on food security. Dev conducted research on food and livelihood security in the context of community resilience in the wake of external-driven change including environmental stress and government rural development schemes. Kaitlyn developed a case study of Sanjeevini’s approach to mobilizing community-based seed conservation.
