Manitoba - Canadian Red Cross

Nana Araba Asaam's domestic field placement was with the Manitoba - Canadian Red Cross where she was assigned to work with two programs, the Disaster Management (DM) program and the Respect Education program.

Working with DM, Nana assisted in the coordination of activities for disaster preparedness, response and recovery as required in Manitoba and Western Zone in order to maximize disaster response capabilities and ability to support those affected. She was also tasked to assist with recruitment and development of volunteers for the Ready When the Time Comes Project.

Respect Education gave Nana the opportunity to research and develop community profiles for Indigenous communities. Documented information from this research will enable Respect Education tailor programs and services that meet specific needs of communities. She also created an information kit from the Respect Education program content to deliver to communities through radio stations.
