People’s Dialogue on Human Settlement (PD)
My field placement this summer was with People’s Dialogue on Human Settlement, usually called PD by all the staff members. PD is a not-for-profit organization which serves as an advocate for the poor and marginalized in urban Ghana. I was involved in many projects and activities because I wanted to learn as much as possible from the field placement. First, I was involved in developing project proposals for funds from the US, Canadian and German governments. Second, I proofread technical reports which had been written by PD. Third, I prepared a comprehensive implementation plan on a project for social accountability. Next, I helped to manage project implementation and utilization. An example was the Amui Djor Solar energy project. I was also involved in community engagement exercises. Last, I was involved in community engagement exercises. In a nutshell, I would say the field placement has been very beneficial. It helped me to catch-up on what had happened in the development arena since I left. I am really happy I did it.
