Regional Advisory Information and Network Systems (RAINS)
For my placement, I was based in Tamale, Northern Ghana with the Regional Advisory and Information Network Systems (RAINS), Ghana. I had the opportunity to participate in five different projects - Community Action and Support for Education (CASE), Integrated Community Empowerment (INCOME), Strategic Approaches to Girls' Education (STAGE), School Pedagogy, and SEWOH - One World No Hunger. I joined various project officers on project activities in seven different partner communities weekly throughout my time in placement. During these field tasks in the communities, I assisted in coordinating project activities ranging from collecting demographic data, conducting and transcribing interviews, participating in reflection exercises with community facilitators on work progress, witnessed the use of Village Savings and Loans (a model of savings and loans with lesser interest rates for local communities), grant proposal writing, attending workshops, conferences and meetings, and taking photographs of events for the organization’s website and social media platforms. In essence, I experienced a piece of all the major projects available at RAINS.
