Pimachiowin Aki Corporation (PAC)
Henok conducted his second MDP field placement with the Pimachiowin Aki Corporation which is a non-profit charity organization comprised of Bloodvein River, Little Grand Rapids, Pauingassi and Poplar River First Nations and Manitoba and Ontario Government partners. Their goal is to work together to protect and preserve Pimachiowin Aki, an ancient and living cultural landscape where Anishinaabeg and all other beings—the animals, trees, plants, fish and waters—are understood and safeguarded as one.
Henok’s role included conducting research, writing an options paper, and developing a business plan for a First Nations-owned and controlled Indigenous tourism corporation in the Pimachiowin Aki World Heritage Site. As communicated by the host organization, Henok’s work will be used to guide decisions and actions toward development and delivery of a tourism facility and experience in the World Heritage Site. This field placement opportunity has also provided Henok with a valuable experience in areas such as research, business planning and project management.
