Bear Coulee Horse Ranch EAL Ltd

Leona Star spent her summer with the First Nations-owned and operated equine-assisted learning business, Bear Coulee Horse Ranch EAL Ltd which was incorporated in 2024.  The business draws upon their Nehiyawak ways of knowing that teach participants about their relationships to the lands, waters, and all living beings in a way that reconnects people to their Nehiyawak culture. Through tipi teachings embedded throughout the exercises, participants will learn about traditional land-based teachings that will help individuals facing spiritual, emotional, mental, or physical challenges.

The business's mission is to create a safe space where families can celebrate and connect learning and healing through the spirit of the horse.

As a newly incorporated business, the owners of Bear Coulee Horse Ranch EAL Ltd asked Leona to help develop and finalize a business plan, identify a list of potential funding sources, and draft a curriculum that incorporates Nehiyawak teachings with EAL drawing upon tipi teachings and the medicine wheel teachings.
