Randy Kobes Undergraduate Poster Symposium

19th Annual Randy Kobes Undergraduate Poster Symposium

The 19th annual Randy Kobes Poster Symposium displays some of the excellent quality research by undergraduate students at The University of Winnipeg. This event is a valuable opportunity for students to obtain experience in presentations of scientific research especially if a student plans to continue with graduate work. It also gives students an opportunity to see what exciting research is taking place amongst their peers and celebrate these accomplishments together.

**NEW DATE!! This year, the poster symposium will take place on Wednesday November 13th as part of Research Week. Students will present their poster during their scheduled time slot to a small group of judges. Each session consists of a 5-7 minute oral presentation of their research, followed by time for questions. Due to the wide range of topics displayed, the poster and presentation should be aimed at the level of an (informed) general public because the judges are not experts in all the fields presented.

Competing is OPTIONAL. All student posters will be judged, however only those who wish to compete may win a cash prize in one of the 4 selected categories:

  • Social Sciences
  • Biological & Environmental Sciences
  • Experimental Physical Sciences
  • Mathematical & Theoretical Physical Sciences
  • *NEW! Health Sciences (sponsored by MMSF)

An awards ceremony will take place on Friday, November 15th at 1:15pm (location: 2M70), to celebrate all the contestants and announce the winners of each category (for those who competed). The ceremony will commence immediately following the 3-minute thesis competition. More details to come.

This competition is open to all undergraduate students who performed scientific research at The University of Winnipeg under the supervision of a faculty member or with a faculty member sponsor (this includes summer projects and honour's theses). To be eligible, the student should have been enrolled in an undergraduate program in the 2023-2024 school year, OR will be an undergraduate in the 2024-2025 school year.
