Religion and Popular Culture

REL-2401, Religion in Popular Culture – Fall 2020

This course is about the idea of “religion” and its many intersections with popular culture (and vice versa). It uses books, television, film, sport, video games, music and things online to wonder about religious expressions generally. Throughout the duration of the course we will be asking: “What do we talk about when we talk about ‘religion’?” That is, we will be thinking about “religion” in a broad fashion so as to problematize the term itself.
