Contact: Dylan Jones
Location: Zoom
Ashley Hayward, Research Manager for the Kishaadigeh Collaborative Research Centre at The University of Winnipeg, facilitates this session for researchers who are interested in learning about ethics and Indigenous research. In addition to Ashley’s extensive experience as a research manager for multiple Indigenous community-based projects, she has been a member of the University of Manitoba Research Ethics Board since 2018 and is lead author of the 2021 article A New Era of Indigenous Research: Community-based Indigenous Research Ethics Protocols in Canada.
This session will provide an overview of the Indigenous ethical frameworks that are most often cited when conducting research that involves Indigenous Peoples (OCAP, OCAS, National Inuit Strategy on Research, USAI, Chapter 9 of the TCPS 2) and the more distinctions-based ethical frameworks that may not be as well known, followed by a discussion of some of the most promising practices to engage ethically in Indigenous research.
