Frequently Asked Questions-Fall Term
Start of Fall Term 2021
Fall Term 2021 is here! Here are answers to the most frequently asked questions at this time of year:
Fall and Fall/Winter Terms are due September 23, 2021. Note that this is NOT the same date as the last day to drop a course for full refund - see question below!
(Winter Term fees are due January 24, 2022.)
Pay your fees the easy way - through your financial institution! All you have to do is set up The University of Winnipeg as a bill payment using your student number as the account number.
Payments from international banks are made via flywire.com.
Check your balance and/or obtain a payment receipt on WebAdvisor by clicking on the "Account Detail" section under Student Finance. Select a term to view from the drop-down menu. Expand the payment section and click on the receipt number or click on "View Statement" to access your full registration/financial statement.
Student Central writes letters to use to withdraw money from a RESP (or various other purposes). Requests for certified letters can be submitted to Student Central. Letters are $10 each. Please complete the order form here. Our processing times are extended during busy periods.
Ceasing to attend a class DOES NOT constitute withdrawal from a class and you will continue to be responsible for the course fees. ALWAYS consult the withdrawal schedules before the beginning of term for both the eligible refund period and the final withdrawal dates. See the withdrawal schedules.
The last day to drop a regularly-scheduled Fall or Fall/Winter Term course for full refund is September 20. This is different from the tuition deadline - see question #1 above!
Students who register in nine credit hours or more in a term are automatically enrolled in the UWSA's Health Plan. Students who have other health benefits coverage can opt out through the UWSA's website: https://theuwsa.ca/healthplan . Their website also contains information on opting in to the plan, coverage details, and making a claim.
International students not located in Canada should fill out the specific form on the UWSA's website to opt out.
Fall Term Opt-Change/Opt-Out Deadline: September 21, 2021 (Opt-outs are open now)
Health Plan questions can be sent to health@theuwsa.ca
When a spot becomes available in a course, the first person on the waitlist is sent a time-sensitive email to their UWinnipeg Webmail account notifying them that they have a specific number of days to claim the reserved seat by registering in the course. Register immediately! (Or drop yourself from that waitlist.) The waitlist process for Fall and Fall/Winter Terms will run for the last time on September 20, 2021 which is the last day to register in a Fall or Fall/Winter Term course.
NOTE: Consider whether it is advisable to register in the course for which you have received permission. How far into the course is it? Do you have the time and ability to catch up? Did you miss any potential marks already?
For more information, please visit the Waitlists webpage.
Input your course section number on The University of Winnipeg's Bookstore website to find the textbook and/or course materials required for that section. Depending on the availability for that textbook, the Bookstore offers new, used, rental, and e-text options.
Remember to check your University webmail and Nexus frequently as professors will use these to provide information and online-platform links to students. Professors may wait until the last minute to send this information as class lists are changing frequently at this time.
Students will not be able to access Nexus until close to the start of term. You will receive an email notification via webmail when your course section is added to Nexus access. At that time, you will be able to login using your WebAdvisor login information. Please note, course materials will also not be available until the start of term and not all professors use Nexus as a learning platform.
