Integrated Academic & Research Plan (IARP)

Update

On October 5th, 2015 the Board of Regents approved a Strategic Directions Framework document that provides, among other elements, the foundation for the development of a five-year integrated Academic and Research Plan (IARP). The goal of the IARP is to outline specific actions to advance and execute the strategic directions, within the context of our proposed three-year budget.

Dr. Neil Besner (Provost and Vice-President, Academic) and Dr. Jino Distasio (Associate Vice-President, Research and Innovation) co-chaired a steering committee comprised of individuals from various constituencies across all sectors of the University. This group helped articulate the plan’s development.

The Steering Committee held seven open consultations and requested written submissions from faculty, staff, and students. Discussion focused on several areas identified in the Strategic Directions Framework including supporting faculty in their teaching and research; student supports and success; and research and knowledge mobilization.

Next Steps

UWinnipeg’s Senate approved the IARP document on Thursday, June 16, 2016. In the coming months, a final document will be printed for circulation. In Fall 2016, a Town Hall will be held for faculty, staff, and students to hear about our progress with elements of the IARP to date, with an opportunity for questions and discussion.

We thank everyone who has participated in this process, and we look forward to your continued support.

Background

On October 5th, 2015 the Board of Regents approved a Strategic Directions Framework document that provides, among other elements, the foundation for the development of a five-year integrated Academic and Research Plan (IARP).

The goal of the IARP is to outline specific actions and metrics to advance and execute the strategic directions, within the context of our proposed three-year budget. We know what we want to achieve, now we need to determine how we will get there.

Dr. Neil Besner (Provost and Vice-President, Academic) and Dr. Jino Distasio (Associate Vice-President, Research and Innovation) have convened a steering committee (which they co-chair), comprised of individuals from various constituencies across all sectors of the University. This group will organize and report on consultations leading to the plan’s development.

Consultations

In order to determine the content of the IARP, the Steering Committee is seeking input from faculty, staff, and students. To do this, we are holding several open consultations and accepting written submissions.

To guide the consultation discussions, we have prepared a document that outlines several focus areas identified in the Strategic Directions Framework (e.g., supporting faculty in their teaching and research; how to define “successful graduate”; supporting our diverse student body) and provides some questions to consider.
