CJ alumna wins prestigious award

University of Winnipeg Arts alumna, Melissa Cattini, was awarded the prestigious A. Montague Israels, Q.C. Prize at the Call to the Bar Ceremony on Thursday, June 18, 2015. This award, given by the Manitoba Bar Association, considers performance in all aspects of the Manitoba Bar Admission Program, including academic record, likelihood of future success, and as well as other interests and accomplishments, both inside and outside of the profession. The award is named in honour of the late A. M. Israels (Q.C.), a distnguished lawyer and the first Director of the Manitoba Law Society's Bar Admission Course (now known as the CPLED program).
Melissa Cattini, now an associate at Aikins Law in Winnipeg, returns to the University of Winnipeg's Department of Criminal Justice on Wednesday, November 4, 2015. Cattini, together with Dr. Richard Jochelson, member of the Manitoba Bar Associate and associate professor of Criminal Justice, will give a presentation entitled "What to Expect in Law School," a frank conversation about law school. In relating their experiences, Cattini and Jochelson hope inform future law students about the role of pre-law education, the unexpected challenges of law school, and some of the potential outcomes following law school.
