Biography:

An award-winning teacher, Laura has been on faculty at the UW since 2000. She has served on UNESCO’s expert panel on pandemic recovery in schools (2022-2024), and currently advises the Canadian Mental Health Association on teacher burnout and recovery, and represents North America on the Consortium for Inclusive Teacher Education and Development (CITED). Aside from teaching in schools in 5 countries, she has worked as a Child Life Therapist at Children’s Hospital and as Associate Dean and Acting Dean of this faculty.

Laura has taught years 1, 2, 3, and after-degree courses for the UW. She currently teaches in the third year of the UW Education program. Her favorite part of her job is teaching and learning with her students.

Research Interests:

Laura loves working on research teams with schools, community groups, colleagues, international partners, and student research assistants. As a result of her SSHRC-funded research, Laura has published 4 edited books and 117 research articles including over 85 peer-reviewed articles. Her articles in Conversation Canada have been read by more than 62,500 viewers. Laura’s research interests include mental health of teachers, inclusive practices in schools, teaching methods, and other psycho-social issues in education.
