Tānsí, my name is Aleyah Bighetty I am from Pimicikamak Cree Nation treaty 5. I am a first year student in pre medical technology program to work my way up to either become a MLS or Sonography. Often I still feel like a kid still growing up with limited access to the world in my reserve often we feel isolated and hidden, but thanks to my science teachers and art teachers building that curiosity i would often ask odd questions like "why is an apple red," and we learn that through biology and chemistry, I grew up fascinating what else could I learn out there and thanks to that curiosity at a young age I still have that curiosity drive within me, I am paving the way to success with trial and errors of course like the scientific world. I always had a big desire for what else is in the world of science can I discover. I am happy to be selected this year for the opportunity to help me discover more of the scientific research programs I am eager to learn more about and experience new things thanks to P2GS. I am especially excited to aid Jamie in his ongoing research of exploring the chemistry of new ligands containing the "heavy chalcogen" elements of Se and Te. My kid self is filled with admiration and hope for the future of Indigenous youth, I'm glad my dreams are unfolding before me.

Boozhoo!

My name is Olivia Shyiak and I am a member of Sagkeeng First Nation. I’m a second year student in the Honours Psychology program here at the University of Winnipeg. I am very excited to be working with and learning from Dr. Stephanie Bugden this May!

I’ve been interested in psychology for as long as I can remember and am planning to get a PhD in developmental psychology to become a professor. Research and learning has also been a big interest of mine, and with that said, I can’t wait to get hands on experience this May!
