Brittany Lavallee
After her graduation from Global College's Human Rights Program, Brittany proceeded to School for International Training (SIT) in Humanitarian Assistance and Crisis Management, which has its headquarters and campus in Brattleboro, Vermont, USA. She highly recommends their master's programs because they have many programs geared toward humanities and environmental studies. For this program, Britanny secured a scholarship covering half of the tuition, which the University helped her find and apply for when she was accepted to the program.
Britanny volunteered abroad with the Volunteer Eco Students Abroad (VESA) program on community-based programs in Asia, Africa, and South America. She recommends volunteering abroad during undergraduate programs as she had a fantastic experience.
Regarding her recent proud moment, Brittany had this to share:
"I embarked on an international journey in a Global Master of Arts, studying Humanitarian Assistance and Crisis Management with the School for International Training (SIT). Completing my thesis and finding ways to decolonize my research was one of my proudest accomplishments because I felt Integrity in my work."
Her current passion lies in changing the colonial practices that First Nations families face in child welfare. As Anishinaabkwe from Pine Creek First Nations, she believes that she has obligations towards her community. She notes that the systems in Canada have a history of separating children from their Nations, languages, families, and cultures, causing disruption to their physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
