Psychology Speaker Series features Dr. Nora Newcombe
Fri. Sep. 15, 2023
The first talk in the 2023-2024 Psychology Speaker Series features Dr. Nora Newcombe (Temple University), who will be discussing the topic, Mental Rotation: Development, Assessment, and Real-World Relevance. Dr. Newcombe writes: “Mental rotation is an important cognitive tool with real-world relevance for tool use and science and math learning. Although its ontogeny has been debated, it is increasingly clear that its development is gradual and depends heavily on experience with physically manipulating objects. Gradual development poses a challenge for the assessment of individual differences, which researchers are beginning to address, along with increasing recognition that other object-focused spatial skills are also worthy of attention. Assessment tools are now being deployed in efforts to increase mental rotation skill and evaluate the effects on STEM learning.”
Please join the Psychology Department for this STEM talk on Friday, September 29, from 12:30-1:20 p.m. in Eckhardt-Gramatté Hall (3rd floor, Centennial Hall, University of Winnipeg).
Everyone is welcome to attend this free lecture.
