AMA Online Training
Passed in 2013, the Accessibility for Manitobans Act (AMA) provides for a long-term, proactive approach to making Manitoba more inclusive for everyone and also barrier-free by 2023.
The AMA includes five accessibility standards that address barriers for Manitobans in the following five key areas of daily living:
- First Standard - Customer Service
- Second Standard – Employment
- Third Standard - Information and Communications,
- Fourth Standard - Transportation
- Fifth Standard - Built environment
This online course will introduce all employees at the University of Winnipeg to the First Standard, which was passed as law on November 1, 2015. Within the three modules, each 10 minutes in length, employees will have an opportunity to learn about specific types of barriers experienced by persons with disabilities and what they can do to facilitate removal of barriers toward greater accessibility, as well as how to foster respectful communication and interaction.
The online course is mandatory toward ensuring The University of Winnipeg’s compliance with the First Standard of the Act and also is also intended to provide employees with a baseline understanding of future voluntary AMA training through facilitative workshops. At the end of the course, a Certificate of Completion will be issued and a record will be retained for audit purposes on verification of institutional compliance.
