Acting Prof Text Coach for Sold Out Run

Thu. Jan. 30, 2025

A bearded older man with fairy wings walks through a magical wood with the aid of a walker. A balloon string leads from the walker to the bottom tip of a crescent moon.

As the last snow was disappearing from the landscape around the St Norbert Ruins, THFM acting Professor Christopher Brauer stepped out of the classroom and into the rehearsal studio for Shakespeare in the Ruins' production of William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream.

As Text Coach his task was to support the director and work with the cast of 9 actors to ensure that the complex text of this 400 year old play was clear, playful, free and vibrant. He worked with the actors on comprehension and pronunciation; on making the images specific; on giving shape to the verse line; on making the line-of-thought clear and specific; and on breaking the rules when needed.

The production took place outdoors at the St Norbert Monastery through the month of June, leading the audience from one magical location to another. It was a huge hit for the company and extended its run.

This was Christopher's eighth time Text Coaching for SIR, for whom he has also directed.
