Margaret Bloodworth

Margaret Bloodworth received a BA from The University of Winnipeg in 1970 and a Bachelor of Law from the University of Ottawa. She was called to the Bar in 1979.

Bloodworth began her professional career in 1979 with the former Canadian Transport Commission. In 1984, she was appointed as Acting Assistant General Counsel, and a year later, as General Counsel. In 1988, she became the Director General of the Dispute Resolution Branch of the National Transportation Agency, where she remained until her appointment to the Privy Council Office in 1989 as Assistant Secretary to the Cabinet (Legislation and House Planning, and Counsel).  In 1994, she was promoted to Deputy Clerk (Security and Intelligence, and Counsel).  She left the Privy Council Office in 1996 to accept an appointment as Associate Deputy Minister of Transport and in 2002, she was named Deputy Minister of National Defence.

In presenting the October 2002 University of Winnipeg Distinguished Alumni Award, Alumni Association President Doug Nanton highlighted  Bloodworth’s “incredible competence during very challenging times … and her ability to effectively make difficult judgments and provide valuable guidance to government decision makers.”
