Volunteer Opportunities

The Alumni Association has volunteer opportunities to suit a wide range of interests and time commitments. By getting involved—a little or a lot—you can make a difference to your University and current students. 

Current Volunteer Opportunities:

UWinnipeg Connect - UWinnipeg Connect is a an online community where alumni, students, staff, faculty and other UW Community members can share their experiences and “Connect”  It is a career and networking source. If you are looking for career assistance or would like to offer a helping hand UWinnipeg Connect is a virtual platform that allows you to meet others. You choose how often you wish to volunteer your time and exactly how you want to help. Take advantage of the opportunities UWinnipeg Alumni can offer!

Alumni Association Council - This Council represents the Alumni Association and meets monthly to make decisions on policy and programming for the association. Each member serves a three-year term. In addition, three alumni representatives are chosen to serve on the Board of Regents and provide a liaison between the University's governing body and alumni. Other Volunteer Opportunities at UWinnipeg open to UWinnipeg Alumni (please contact these programs directly):

University of Winnipeg ELP Conversation Club - Conversation Club is designed to facilitate intercultural exchange, social connections and the enhancement of communication abilities. Participants can practice English listening and speaking skills outside of the classroom while meeting other UW students and building relationships. Volunteers are native or fluent English speakers who enjoy sharing their knowledge of Canadian culture and learning about new cultures. Volunteers will be asked to complete the screening process to ensure appropriate levels of English Fluency for helping ELP students. English Language Program Conversation Group will be held both in person and online on a weekly basis. Student can choose to attend the in person or online groups. 

Wii Chiiwaakanak Learning Centre
The Wii Chiiwaakanak Learning Centre’s primary focus is to offer educational and cultural programming rooted in Indigenous knowledge, in order to develop and strengthen pathways for Indigenous students to University. The endeavors of the centre are in alignment with the University’s strategic direction of Indigenization, that includes and values Indigenous knowledge, culture and perspectives throughout the UWinnipeg. Our programming include: after school science and homework club, women’s self-defense courses, STEAM camps, Science kids on campus (in partnership with inner-city schools), Indigenous language courses and many other cultural workshops.
