This is a joint program with Red River College and leads to a Bachelor of Arts degree (3-year, 4-year, or Honours) with a Disability and Community Support Diploma from Red River College.
Students taking an undergraduate degree in another Major may choose to add a Minor in Disability Studies as a secondary area of interest.
Program Update:
Please be advised that the program requirements for a 3-year, 4-year, or Honours BA in Disability Studies have recently changed and these changes are effective immediately.
For the 3-year BA, DIS-3002(3): Disability Studies Research Placement is no longer a required course. Required courses now include:
- DIS-1003(3): Introduction to Disability Studies I
- DIS-1004(3): Introduction to Disability Studies II
- DIS-2100(3): Theorizing Disability*
- 3 credit hours: Any 3000 or 4000 level DIS course
- 3 credit hours: Any DIS course
- 3 credit hours: SOC-2126 or any qualitative research methods course approved by the Coordinator
For the 4-year BA, DIS-3002(3): Disability Studies Research Placement and DIS-4002(3): Disability Studies Field Placement II are no longer required courses. Required courses now include:
- DIS-1003(3): Introduction to Disability Studies I
- DIS-1004(3): Introduction to Disability Studies II
- DIS-2100(3): Theorizing Disability
- DIS-4001(3): Disability Studies Seminar II
- 3 credit hours: Any 3000 or 4000 level DIS course
- 9 credit hours: Any DIS course OR other course(s) approved by the Disability Studies Coordinator
- 6 credit hours: Any social science qualitative research methods course(s) OR 3 credit hours: Any social science qualitative research methods course and 3 credit hours: any introductory social science quantitative research methods course
- Minimum 3 credit hours of related course work must be taken with the approval of the Disability Studies Coordinator
For the Honours BA, DIS-3002(3): Disability Studies Research Placement and DIS-4002(3): Disability Studies Field Placement II are no longer required courses. Required courses now include:
- DIS-1003(3): Introduction to Disability Studies I
- DIS-1004(3): Introduction to Disability Studies II
- DIS-2100(3): Theorizing Disability
- DIS-4001(3): Disability Studies Seminar II
- DIS-4900(6): Honours Research Paper
- 6 credit hours: Any social science qualitative research methods course OR 3 credit hours: Any social science qualitative research methods course AND 3 credit hours: any introductory social science quantitative research methods course
- 18 credit hours any DIS courses OR other course(s) approved by the Disability Studies Coordinator
