The University of Winnipeg Global College fosters global citizenship and engagement in human rights through interdisciplinary teaching, research, dialogue, and action in local and global communities.

Global College Provides students, faculty, staff, visiting scholars, and community leaders with ways to interact on their diverse perspectives about global citizenship, human rights, and other issues affecting local and global communities.

Global College hosts the following research and public education institutes:

Conflict and Resilience Research Institute Canada

Conflict and Resilience Research Institute Canada (CRRIC) is a research think-tank based in Winnipeg, MB. CRRIC research teams are composed of a group of scholars, experts and development practitioners committed to making a difference in applied social studies through knowledge translation in peace and justice, human rights research and humanitarian action inside and outside Canada. CRRIC conducts time-sensitive peacebuilding policy dialogues, as well as develops programs and intervention strategies to advance safety-net supports, and capacity building and resilience formation. CRRIC’s priorities are: homeless street children; political, ethnic and environmental refugees; child workers in sex trade and hazardous workplace settings; immigrants and refugees, stateless and displaced people; and other marginalized social groups including Indigenous communities globally. CRRIC offers practicum training for graduate students who aspire to seek employment in human rights, peacebuilding, and conflict resolution sectors. Read more about CRRIC.

Caribbean Research Institute

The Caribbean Research Institute (CRI) advances research in the circum-Caribbean region, provides fora for dissemination of findings, and promotes mobility and interaction in research and education of Canadian and Caribbean scholars and students. The work of the CRI is conducted through collaboration of UW researchers with researchers from three other Canadian universities (Bishop’s University; Lakehead University; University of Toronto), as well as with scholars from Cuba (University of Havana), Nicaragua (Bluefields Indian and Caribbean University), Jamaica (University of the West Indies at Mona) and Costa Rica (Universidad de Costa Rica). The CRI also works in partnership with various local and national heritage institutions (Cuban Institute of Anthropology; Jamaica National Heritage Trust).

The CRI organizes Speakers Series on main campus where our members present to the academic community and to the general public their recent research results.

Institute for International Women's Rights

The Institute for International Women's Rights provides opportunities for research, learning, dialogue, and action on Women's Rights in collaboration with groups and organizations within the university, such as the Institute for Women's and Gender Studies, and in the larger community, such as the Winnipeg branch of UNIFEM. The IIWR-Manitoba supports educational, economic, social, legal and health opportunities that help to increase respect for and implementation of the human rights of women locally and globally. The IWR-Manitoba is dedicated to promoting women's human rights, global women's health, women's peace and security in conflict zones and post conflict reconstruction areas. Read more about IIWR.

Manitoba Women for Women of South Sudan

The Manitoba Women for Women of South Sudan (MW4WSS, known as W4W) was established in 2011. The MW4WSS members are primarily South Sudanese women and Canadian allies living in North America. They come from various ethnic backgrounds and work together with the interest of all the women of South Sudan at heart. All agree to address the destruction of the Long War and historical struggles and work together to build a brighter future for all South Sudanese people, embedded in cultural values and respect for democracy in South Sudan.

The MW4WSS operates to enable and strengthen the efforts and the capacities of the most marginalized and vulnerable women in Manitoba, Africa, and around the world by providing opportunities and promoting their educational, healthcare, economic and social status of all women to attain gender equality and human rights. The Institute envisions a just world in which, every woman regardless of background, race or ethnicity attains gender equality and human rights to reach her full potential.
