4th Annual Gala Dinner
The India Centre for Academic, Business & Community Excellence, along with the India Centre Association of Manitoba and The University of Winnipeg was honoured to host His Excellency, Mr. Vikas Swarup, High Commissioner of India to Canada, as the chief guest and keynote speaker at the India Centre's 4th Annual Gala Dinner on December 5, 2018 at CanadInns.
In addition to over 30 years of diplomatic work, His Excellency, Mr. Vikas Swarup, High Commissioner of India to Canada, is a distinguished diplomat, public intellectual, and an acclaimed author. He has authored three novels whose works including ‘Q&A’, the novel upon which the Oscar-winning film, Slumdog Millionaire is based. His books, Q&A, Six Suspects and The Accidental Apprentice have been translated into over 40 international languages. He has written for prestigious publications that include TIME, Newsweek, The Guardian, and numerous other global publications.
After opening remarks, he spoke to a full house about success, the impact of technology, economics, the creative process, and encouraged his audience to tell their story. Much to the delight of the evening's guests, he talked about his background, and the immense research he did in order to write his books.
Often punctuated with jocularity, his engaging talk and encouraging words included the three 'C's' required for each person to write their own book. These included curiousity, confidence and a computer to do the required research.
As an added treat, Imagauri Kanade performed a graceful dance and movement with the Indian classical Kathak dance.
